still recovering

Wow I didn't know I'd still be taking pain killers pretty regularly by this time. I am just so sore. I'm still recovering I guess. I was hoping I'd feel good enough to clean out some closets and clean up my office area and quilting area. The desk top where the sewing machine belongs has a big pile of scrap fabrics and recently purchased fabrics. I had to get my son to take the sewing machine to the kitchen so I could do my block of the month that I have to have done by Saturday. I got it done, but it took me a few hours. I had to sit and rest and took a nap in the middle of one block! I hope I'll feel better soon.

Lung Biopsy done!

The last time I updated, I was getting ready for a trip with my friends to Reno. We had a wonderful time. The show "Menopause" was great. If you get a chance to see it, DO!
We went to a quilt shop I had been to but my friends hadn't been there. It was called Going Batty quilt shop in Reno. My friends liked it and we'llo all be going back again. Then we went to a shop where my friends had been but I hadn't been to before, in Gardnerville, Nevada. The Quilt House. Wow what a terrific shop! This shop is permanently on the Return To list.

Last Monday the 18th, I went to the hospital for my lung biopsy. I expected to come home the following day, or on Wednesday, but I didn't make it home until Friday. My hubby could only come to visit twice in 4 days, my son didn't come at all. He didn't even call. My daughter took the bus with her girlfriend, after school, everyday to the hospital to see me. Isn't that sweet, just a like a daughter! She didn't want to be at home alone so she stayed with her girlfriend at night. Her girlfriend's mother picked them up on her way home from work. My daughter brought me balloons and a coworker sent flowers and a teddy bear. Another friend sent home a complete spaghetti dinner for the family and me to enjoy, and another friend gave me a new book, a candle, and really nice body lotion. I don't know why I deserve such good friends, but I love them.

I looked at my favorites blogs Monday morning and couldn't wait to get home to read them. I finally had a good night's sleep last night. It is so annoying to not sleep well at night and then they have to wake you up every few minutes to take your blood pressure, oxygen level, etc. They even woke me to ask about my pain. I don't think I would be sleeping if I was in too much pain. I am usually pretty easy to get along with, but I don't know why the night nurses are so noisy! They talk and laugh all night long and allow the bells and alarms to ring and ring and ring! I wanted to get up and answer the bells and alarms myself. Now I have to recover for a week or so before I can go back to work, and wait 2 weeks for results from the biopsies they took. My only fear is that they won't be able to determine any cause for my lung disease and I will have gone thru this biopsy for nothing. The bandage comes off tomorrow and I can see what the sopt looks like where the chest tube was in my back. You're probably glad I haven't figured out how to add pictures yet! Right?

Busy day today

Today will be a busy day. I need to run the car through the car wash, do some shopping, some house cleaning and spend some time with my daughter. Early tomorrow morning my friends and I are going to Reno to see a show. The show is called 'Menopause'. My boss lady saw it and told me how funny it is and that I should go with my friends. So we've ordered tickets and booked 2 rooms at the El Dorado. I can't wait! it will be so much fun!

Lung biopsy

Well, I'm having surgery on May 18th. Unless there is a cancellation before then. I am not looking forward to it, but to make the most of it, I'll find some hand sewing projects that I can do while recovering. I wish I knew somebody that had a lung biopsy so I could find out what to expect. The surgeon said it will be uncomfortable, like a broken rib. Well, I don't call a broken rib "uncomfortable". I'll have to wait and see.

Happy Easter

I forgot to tell you Happy Easter! I hope that bunny is good to you.

Wow. I haven't written here since February.

A lot has happened if my life lately. At Christmas I had pneumonia. This was the 2nd time I had pneumonia. I had it in 2003 and I was much sicker that time. The cough seemed to just hang on and hang on. The follow up xray showed I still had some pneumonia although it had cleared quite a bit. So I had to take another course of antibiotics. When I told my doctor that I was still coughing I had a 2nd follow up xray. This time they suggested a CT scan. The CT scan report came back "underlying lung disease" and suggested another CT scan in 3-6 months, and I was referred to a pulmonologist. I really like my pulmonologist. She ordered a bunch of blood work. She performed a Bronchoscopy where they look inside the bronchial tube. They took some fluid samples from my lungs and a biopsy of a little bump in my windpipe. The labs have all come back normal. The little bump was just benign tissue from my trachea. I also had a Pulmonary function test. Now my next step is a lung biopsy. This one will be real surgery. I am waiting now to see the surgeon to get details of recovery etc. I will be in the hospital for 2-3 days with a drain coming out my side and I imagine the recovery will be a few more days after I get home.

I have a trip planned with my girlfriends to Reno to see the show "Menopause" on May 3rd. I'm really looking forward to that little trip so I hope I can schedule the surgery after that. I'm also supposed to bowl one game with my co-workers. It's part of an employee appreciation thing that they do at UC Davis called Thank Goodness For Staff. We bowl really bad but somehow we always bowl better than the other team and we get a first or second place trophy. I don't want to miss bowling either. So even though I know I should have this surgery, I hope I can do it after the fun stuff.

Well that sounds like I'm having a real pitty party here. I guess I am.

As soon as I figure out how to add pictures, I'll add some of the projects I've been doing. Like everybody who enjoys quilting, I have a lot of unfinished projects. I'd like to set a goal of finishing at least 1 project this month. Let's see how I do.

Happy Valentine's Day

It's already the middle of February! Valentine's Day was my Dad's birthday. My grandmother would always bake him a heart shaped birthday cake for his birthday. He passed away in March 1992 at 80 years young. He lived a happy and active life until then. He hated going to the doctor and I think he would have lived many more years if he had seen the doctor earlier when he had pnuemonia. Well, I can't change anything so I might as well not dwell on it.

I finally took some time last night to do some sewing. I got my computer room/quilting studio/etc. room, cleaned out enough to be able to sew in there. I make such a mess in there that I end up having to move my machine to the kitchen in order to sew. Then the kitchen is overwhelmed by my sewing supplies and finally have to clean up everything.

It's a rainy day today so maybe I'll do some more time in my room sewing. I don't know what to work on, but if I don't think of anything productive then I'll make some pincushions. Never can have too many pincushions. Right?
